some pleasant surprises

You know those days where a bunch of little things just go right? In the grand scheme of things they don't make that much of a difference, but at the time they're so encouraging.

On Friday I went rollerskating with my English school--and I ACTUALLY SKATED!!!!! For those who don't know, I have always been very, very, very incompetent at any kind of sport/activity requiring movement and balance (well, except for riding a bike). But skiing, skating, and rollerskating have always been things I never thought I could do. One of my students took me around the rink a couple of times and it just finally clicked (and maybe after falling enough times, I lost that fear!)

Then, after work I had gone to a mall to do some shopping and was just grabbing a quick bit to eat before I headed back home. As I was getting up to leave, an elderly lady sitting close to me started talking to me. I was standing there for about 5 minutes, then decided to sit down and we had a good half-hour conversation. She was a little opinionated but really sweet and we talked about everything from religion (she's Anglican) to senior citizen tours. It was just one of those things you don't expect to happen but are glad it did.

hey Sharon-- been too long since I've been on here, but that's neat! I liked your stories a lot, and how you noticed those little everyday miracles! Amazing how when we just "take time" sometimes. . . definitely a learning process! Thanks for the time at your place, and by the way, it all worked out with Kristin! ;-) Karis
