3 graduations and a funeral
This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind for me. There were 6 graduating students from my church, so we had a wind-up for them and I also got to attend their grad ceremonies. Then, as I work in a high school, I also went to that ceremony. It was all good--and I'm so proud of all of them! It's hard to believe that next year's going to be my 10 year reunion--time flies!
This week also brought an end for now to my time as a youth leader and to my job. My plan in the fall is to head off to Ecuador again and get a job teaching English. It was really hard to leave both of those things, though--they've both played such huge parts in my life. Over the May long weekend, I got to go to Minneapolis with the youth from church--there's something about those kinds of trips that just bonds you to those you're with! And, with my job, I have really loved the people I've been blessed to work with. So, yeah, I'm going on to some exciting things, but I'm going to miss what I'm leaving behind. I'm thankful for the way God has blessed me these past two years, but transitions are never easy.
My uncle also died this week. I was never close to him but it was hard to see my Grandma have to bury her son and my cousin bury her father. He had married into an Aboriginal family so a lot of his adopted family was at the funeral. It was so neat to hear how he had impacted them and made such a huge difference in their family's life (and a little sad that I hadn't known that much about him before). It was also neat to see two cultures combine forces to organize a funeral service that was true to each one.
Right now I'm busy planning another trip--I'm off to England in just over 2 weeks! :)
I'm going to visit my friend, Naomi--plus a friend from church is going to come and meet me while I'm out there so we can make a little jaunt over to France and Italy.
Good times!
